Gotta Go: Satis Bistro
European fare housed in a Jersey City brownstone...
I met up with my college roomie for a dish session on the quaintest little corner in Jersey City and instantly knew I had to bring you all in. The event planner in me makes me a sucker for atmosphere and ambiance, but Satis Bistro manages to make you feel like you're in a round-the-way European brasserie without being kitchy. The mood is light and easy which is a great pull away from the now mega bustling streets of downtown JC. The service is quick while avoiding being rushed and the menu is extensive and eye-catching. I don't know if this was on purpose (probably was because the space was awesome like that), but both of our servers were French. Vibessss.
We tried the bistro's popular Spicy Limonada and Cucumber Gimlet - both proper for a summer evening. The Spicy Limonada matched its moniker and was tart with a spicy kick. The Cucumber Gimlet...listen. SO GOOD! So good. Tangy, sweet, refreshing, awesome.
Everything else is lovable, but nothing beats good food. The menu here just makes sense and it's true to a traditional European restaurant, but also acknowledges the huge rustic-modern trend going on right now. I'm not even going to tell you to order what we did, because we would've ordered 1-of-each if it wasn't ridiculous to do so.
If you're in Jersey City or anywhere close, trust me on this one and check out Satis Bistro. Great date night, girls' night, brunch, quick-but-good bite, grab-a-glass, all of the above little space. They do a ton of tapas and wine events and even have a basement wine/cocktail bar separate from the main restaurant for anyone who feels like being seated along a Carrera marble bar top. Let me know what you think and I'll catch you at the next spot.
